Raven: The Island is a CBBC children's adventure game show, and the first spin-off to the main series, Raven.

It comprises one series, initially airing in 2006 on the CBBC Channel, and then during CBBC on BBC One. In this series, warriors compete as teams and attempt to complete the many challenges on the Island of Alaunus, retrieving timepieces in the hope of defeating the evil Nevar.

Plot[]

Raven: The Island sees the Island of Alaunus, Raven's homeland as a child, come under control by the evil force of Nevar and his demons. Raven has been exiled from the island, and so his close and trusted childhood friend Princess Erina, assists Raven's young warriors in their quest, with the help of her companion, Haryad.

Their only hope of restoring the Island lies with the three teams of four warriors, who must travel to the island and towards the ruined fortress that once belonged to Erina's father, the King, collecting timepieces along the way. Nevar, unable to destroy the timepieces, has attempted to hide them in perilous traps and challenges. Using the timepieces, together with an upcoming solar eclipse, they must then enter the fortress and take an acorn from the Great Oak, stolen and locked away by Nevar to cut new Staffs of Power for his elite Demons, so that a new tree may be planted away from the island, far from Nevar's rule.

Contestants[]

RTI had the lowest number of contestants ever in a series of the show (12 warriors in all) participating. This was the start of the spin-off tradition of having the warriors split into animal-based teams of four (in this case, the Lions, Eagles and Wolves), distinguishable by the colour of their warrior garb.

However, unlike other seasons, the warriors' garb was two-coloured (see below), and if a warrior was eliminated in a challenge, they couldn't be brought back. At all. Ever. This was a very radical departure from what happened in the main show, or in subsequent spinoffs.

The colour scheme for the warriors worked with a major colour (the colour of their warrior shirt and pants) and a trim colour (what colour bags they carried with them). The trim colour also determined the colour of the background of the flag their leader carried (the foreground was a head of their animal group name).

For reasons unknown, the three team leaders were decided off-screen and through unknown means, as opposed to the team leaders in subsequent spin-offs, who would be decided by two trials on the first day.

Challenges[]

The challenges in this spin-off have two names: their location on the map (which will be shown in bold) and the actual challenge there, as said by Erina (which will be shown in italics). For those warriors who get eliminated, their names will be underlined and struck through.

Day 1[]

Great Loch/Sands of Taren, Loch Crossing: On the first day, the warriors are given their mission, and row off, across the Great Loch, to the Island, in longboats, with the prow of each one sculpted to look like the head of their team's animal. Landing at the Sands of Taren, they receive supplies left by Erina: these supplies consist of their warrior team's flag, their bags (which contain their sleeping equipment, food and survival utensils), a compass, a copy of the Rune Book, which will help in translating the ancient runes they will come across during their mission; and a third of a map of Alaunus, as the teams will branch off in three directions, to go and collect timepieces from across Alaunus. Erina explains the divisions of the teams will mean the Demons will not be able to catch them as easily as they would catch a large mass of people in one place.

Secret Lagoon, Secret Lagoon: Whilst the other warriors rest after voyaging to the Island, the three team leaders, Tanla (Wolves), Delra (Lions) and Tanel (Eagles), receive a scroll, ordering them to the Secret Lagoon, a miniature island that Raven and Erina discovered when they were children. Here, they must jump off the rocks and into the Lagoon, in order to collect a Pearl of Wisdom each, which will help them and their team if needed. According to Erina, the Pearls of Wisdom were discovered by Cyrus the Astronomer when sorcery returned to Alaunus, and will answer any question asked in their presence. Although Delra and Tanel make the jump, collecting their Pearls in the process, Tanla, who has a fear of heights, refused to jump, despite Delra's encouragement, meaning that the Wolves had no Pearl of Wisdom in their arsenal.

The arrival of the warriors alerts the Demons to their presence, and so the battle for Alaunus begins.

Day 2[]

Wolves[]

Forest of Dawn Time, Cairn Milestone: the Wolves happen upon a guidance stone statue, which has been shattered by the Demons. They must correctly rebuild it, as the statue's face is decorated in pictures, one of which is an arrow that show the path they must take. Erina states that the Forest of Dawn Time stretches over three-quarters of Alaunus, and that Demons constantly stalk it.

Lions[]

Near Drune Hill, Directory: using their map, compass and Rune Book, the Lions must correctly identify certain stones from a riddle in the Rune Book: "To read the map is your first test, find the road that lies North-West. Discover the five that stand alone, walk the way of the mountain stone." After correctly following the North-West route along a river, proscribed in the riddle, the Lions come to a stone circle made of five plain upright stones, one of which leads to their next destination, Drune Hill. According to Erina, the other stones would lead into the paths of Demons who constantly patrol Alaunus.

Eagles[]

River of the Leaping Salmon, River Crossing: the Eagles approach one of three great rivers that runs the length and breadth of Alaunus. They must cross the River to continue their quest, but the River, which was once a fishing and swimming spot by the people of Alaunus, has long been tainted by Nevar, to the extent that anyone who falls into it dies instantly. Even worse, a bridge spanning the River has been destroyed by the Demons, so the Eagles must use the three wooden planks that are left to make a makeshift bridge to cross the stepping stones in the River.

Day 3[]

Wolves[]

Forest of Dawn Time, Compass Stone: The Wolves happen upon the Compass Stone, which has not been destroyed by the Demons, due to their stupidity. The Wolves must answer the following riddle in their Rune Book: "When the Morning Star turns to the East, the arrow will find the First Stone at least; for the second, three sides make a sign, North-West turn to find your line. Between Stones number Two and One, is the way to travel on". Using their compass, the Wolves must correctly answer the riddle and turn the Compass Stone to find the correct two marker symbols to walk through, in order to continue their journey, as these markers surround the Compass Stone. If they follow an incorrect route, they will be lost to the quest.

Lions[]

Edge of the Forest of Dawn Time, Symbol Path: Erina has left signs at the edge of this great forest to guide the Lions. However, the Demons have knocked the signs down, meaning that the Rune Book is, for now, useless in guiding them forwards. The signs have two faces, one on either side: one showing a rune from the Rune Book, and another showing something on a tree, such as red feathers, green leaves, a brown and black rock, blue waves to mean water, a black feather, and brown pine cones. The Lions must hang the signs back up on the trees, matching the tree things with their respective trees and such that the tree thing signs are facing into the trees, thus showing the runes. Next, the Lions must use their Rune Book, now usable once again, to answer a riddle: "The signs at the circle of trees will say, Between PATIENCE and REWARDS lies your way", and correctly decipher which two trees to walk through, to continue their quest, as all runes in the Rune Book correspond to letters of the alphabet, but some runes can also mean certain words. If they walk through the wrong path, the Demons will capture them. Erina says that if the Demons get their hands on the Rune Book, they will be unable to read it.

Eagles[]

Grey Sky Mountain, Climbing: to continue in their quest, one by one, all four Eagles must climb up Grey Sky Mountain to continue in their quest. Tanel leads the way, followed by Masam, Cared and Simlo. Erina says that many eagles have made nests upon this mountain.

Day 4[]

Wolves[]

River of the Rising Moon, Thrall River: after leaving the Forest of Dawn Time behind them, the Wolves must continue their quest through the River of the Rising Moon, a quiet brook that lies beyond the Forest, then into the Vale of Melwa. The Demons constantly patrol the banks of the River, forcing the Wolves to continue their quest upstream through the River. A section of the River itself has been converted into a trap, as it has been strung in thrall threads to which bells are attached, which the Wolves must pass through. If any of the threads are touched, in turn causing the bells attached to ring, the two thrall Demons who stand on either side of the trap will wake up and instantly capture them. Jenso triggered one of the earlier threads, and was claimed as Nevar's first victim, and as the first casualty of the quest.

Lions[]

Forest of Dawn Time, Stone Circle: the Lions encounter a stone circle that Erina had left for them, in order to direct them in their quest. The Demons have already ripped the circle apart, and the Lions must rebuild it. However, the eight larger stones of the circle have runes on them, so the circle must be reassembled in such a way that the runes all spell out a word; the Lions must use their Rune Book to help them decipher the word from runes and correctly spell it out in the circle. This word must then be spoken out loud; when the correct word is spoken, it will trigger a spell that will turn the arrow rune (which represents the letter 'T') to point in the direction the Lions must take.

Eagles[]

Valley of the Rusted Sword, Riddle Statue: the Eagles' quest leads them to a man, who is frozen in place in the path. Haryad describes him as "a strange creature, neither man, nor rock". He carries a large walking stick in his right hand and a shield in his left hand. The Eagles must answer the following riddle in their Rune Book: "Though the warrior is frozen, he still will not yield. The way to move forward is found on his shield. Speak the answer: three words true will show the only path for you." The man's shield is decorated with three runes, which must be translated into words using the Rune Book, and then spoken out loud; the man will then come alive and point the correct way forward to the Eagles. Erina states that this is one of the few signs forward that the Demons have not destroyed, but they did not understand it, either.

Day 5[]

Erina says that the timepieces become part of the quest from this day onwards; the warriors can, if they so choose, collect the timepieces from their places as they progress towards the Fortress.

Wolves[]

Green Lady Wood, Archery: now one member lighter following the events of yesterday, the three Wolves happen upon a trap laid out by Nevar. He has attached four timepieces to four small targets that open and close and are attached to trees. Using a bow each and a quiver each with four arrows in it, the Wolves must shoot arrows at the targets when they are open. If a target is hit, it will release its timepiece and close altogether, allowing the warriors to collect it. However, the trap element is that when the first target is struck by an arrow, wood Demons will know what has happened the moment the arrow hits home, and will gradually close in on the Wolves, who must remain vigilant. Corso proved himself to be the best archer out of the Wolves, scoring three timepieces for the team; Tanla was the worst aim out of the Wolves, whilst Bayle's arrows were very close to the target. Erina mentions that Raven taught the warriors use of the longbow and arrows.

Lions[]

Forest of Dawn Time, Speed Run: the Lions encounter a trap set for them by the Demons. A collection of timepieces have been placed in the tall trees, wrapped in hessian and moving up and down. Some of the hessian bundles contain the timepieces, but most contain useless pieces of rock, placed there to trick the warriors. The Lions must collect as many timepieces as they can, but they cannot afford to spend too long here, because there are wood Demons closing in on them, meaning to trap the warriors here. The Lions escaped with two timepieces courtesy of Goram, which would have been three if Delra hadn't thrown away the timepiece he found, after mistaking it for something random. Erina says that this trap tests agility, and that the Demons are slower than the warriors when it comes to speed.

Eagles[]

River of the Diving Bird, Timepiece Netting: at another of the Island's great rivers, the Eagles must cross its stepping stones to collect a fishing net on a pole from the opposite bank, and use it to gather timepieces in red floats that float downstream. However, Nevar's dark magic has defiled the once-beautiful River, meaning that if a warrior falls into its now-rancid waters, they die, so the Eagles must use the stepping stones in the river to collect the timepieces, being careful not to fall in whilst passing the net between one another. After collecting their timepieces, the Eagles must cross the river to continue. However, after crossing the river, Cared discovers that some of the timepieces are fakes planted by Nevar, whilst others are real; in the end, the Eagles escaped with two timepieces.

Timepiece totals[]

From now until the timepieces are used, there will be two numbers for timepiece totals. The first is how many the team collected that day, whilst the second is the running total.

  • Wolves: three; three
  • Lions: two; two
  • Eagles: two; two
  • All teams together: seven; seven

Day 6[]

Wolves[]

Loch of Loarn, Giant Lillies: arriving at another of Nevar's traps, the Wolves see that the timepieces here have been placed in giant lilies that float on the surface of the Loch, alongside some lilies that contain useless rocks, in order to tempt a warrior into the treacherous waters. To make this challenge even harder, Nevar has also littered the Loch with enchanted venomous seed pods, that will kill whoever touches them, no matter how hard the touch is; if a warrior is lost, so too are the timepieces in their possession. One of the Wolves (Bayle) must swim out into the Loch, collect as many timepieces as possible, avoid the seed pods, and return to the shore. In the end, two of the bundles retrieved from the lilies were actual timepieces, whilst the other three were full of rocks.

Lions[]

Drune Hill, Stone Trolls: the Lions return to Drune Hill, four days after passing it en route to the Forest of Dawn Time. Leaving the Forest behind them, the Lions discover that Nevar has placed three timepieces on one of the faces of the Hill, each one in the grasp of a wretched mountain troll that dwells nearby. The most agile of the Lions (initially Goram, with Kaysa in reserve and eventually taking over from her) must climb up the Hill, and collect the three timepieces from these gnarled sprites, before climbing back down to join the rest of the team, who will guide. Kaysa collected all three timepieces on the face. Erina states that the mountain trolls of Alaunus behaved like monkeys; that is, until Nevar turned them to stone for use as the bait in this trap. She also says that the face is enchanted, wherein a fallen climber will be spirited away.

Eagles[]

Battle of Bryn Brahan, Bones of the Vanquished Warriors: the Eagles encounter the remains of the first of three great battles between the forces of the King of Alaunus, and the forces of Nevar, which took place during the last eclipse. One of the Eagles (Masam) is blindfolded with a red scarf, and must be guided by the rest of the team, who are located outside the battlefield, across the battlefield to collect the two timepieces hidden on the battlefield. The battlefield is cursed in such a way that if the debris (skulls, weapons, suits of armour, etc.) is touched or looked upon too closely, the spirits of the dead will capture the trespasser. Erina states that Nevar was more human at the time of the Battle than he is now. She also says that many men died during the Battle.

Timepiece totals[]

  • Wolves: two; five
  • Lions: three; five
  • Eagles: two; four
  • All teams together: seven; fourteen

Day 7[]

Wolves[]

Mount ZoatAbseiling: to continue their journey, each Wolf must abseil down the cliff face, their only way forward. Corso led the way. Tanla, who was meant to have gone after Corso, did not undertake the challenge due to her fear of heights, and was abandoned by Bayle, who did make the climb, despite worry.

According to Erina, it is impossible to climb back up the face of Mount Zoat. There were no Timepieces available here, meaning the Wolves did not add to their total. In Tanla's absence, Corso became the new leader.

Lions[]

Vale of MelwaTime Well: the Lions must use one of the three Time Wells on the island to generate a single Timepiece, by reassembling the five five-sided stone obelisks according to the riddle in the Rune Book. When the runes on the stone faces spell out the secret code word, the magic begins, as the stones illuminate and shoot lightning to a little stump in the centre of the pentagon, and a single Timepiece appears from the ground. The Lions' riddle reads: "Stand inside the Stones to find, TRUTH is all around you lined."

Erina explains that Cyrus discovered the Time Wells in the past, before Nevar conquering the Island and banishing Raven. Cyrus says that Time Wells were the stuff of legends in the past on Alaunus, buried underground. Before the sorcery returned, nobody had actually seen one of these constructs; when the sorcery did return, the Time Wells became a reality, allowing the sands of time to be mined from the ground, just like gold and silver, but far more precious. When Raven himself was born, Cyrus discovered many Time Wells, everywhere across the Island, before Nevar attacked and sought to destroy them. He did not succeed, as there are three Time Wells that eluded his campaign.

Eagles[]

The Whispering ForestWatch Tower: the Eagles have travelled north west after their time at Bryn Brahan, and happen upon a watchtower, one of many constructed as part of the defence when Erina's father ruled the Island. Simlo must climb the ladder to the ancient watch tower and cross a rope bridge to retrieve a Timepiece on a nearby platform, before making the return journey.

Timepiece totals[]

  • Wolves: zero; five
  • Lions: one; six
  • Eagles: one; five
  • All teams together: two; sixteen

Day 8[]

Wolves[]

Triple Thorn Wood, Silent Collection: with Corso in charge following the events of yesterday, the Wolves approach another of Nevar's traps. He has placed a small number timepieces on tethered bells, that move up and down, and has put some blind but sharp-hearing Demon sentinels in the middle. If the bells are rung, it will instantly notify the Demons as to what is happening. Bayle succeeded in wresting three timepieces from the trap.

Lions[]

Og WoodArchery: four targets that open and close must be hit to secure each of the four timepieces, but the Lions know it is a trap. When the first target is hit, wood Demons will know what has happened, and will begin closing in on the Lions, hoping to trap them there. Delra tries to lead the way, but misses with all three of his arrows. Norso takes over, and on her last arrow, secures the first timepiece of the day for the Lions. Goram, too, adds to the tally, netting a timepiece with her first arrow. When Kaysa takes over, he misses with his first arrow, but scores another timepiece with his second. The Demons close in when he fires his third arrow, and so he misses.

Eagles[]

Cannoch's CragStone Trolls: the Eagles confront another of Nevar's traps, laid out on the cliff face. Stone demons hold two timepieces to tempt them into climbing up to collect them. Cared volunteers to go first, and collect the lower of the two timepieces. Tanel then decides to go up after her, for the second timepiece, higher up. If a warrior should fall, the cliff face will claim them. Even worse, the foothills are home to regular Demon patrols, so the warriors must try and move quickly to wrest the timepieces from the cliff.

Timepiece totals[]

  • Wolves: three; eight
  • Lions: three; nine
  • Eagles: two; seven
  • All teams together: eight; twenty-four

Day 9[]

Wolves[]

Megrin's MireBog Crossing: the Wolves must cross the deadly mire by stepping across toadstools, and may collect the two Timepieces that hang above them. There is no other way around the marshland, and if they fall into the mud, they will die. Corso leads the way, followed by an apprehensive Bayle. Ironically, it was Bayle who collected the first Timepiece. In the end, the Wolves added two more orbs to their total.

Erina says that Megrin's Mire was always a dark place, even when she and Raven were children.

Lions[]

Devlin's WaterRaft Build: the Lions' trail takes them to Nevar's next trap. A single Timepiece has been put on a small island in the middle of the water, and Erina had left a two-hulled boat for them to row out and get the timepiece. Unfortunately, the Demons have dismantled the boat and left its pieces and oars scattered all around. The Lions must work to rebuild the boat and use it to retrieve the timepiece on the small island. Haryad worries that if the boat sinks, the Lions will all be lost. Goram collected the Timepiece for the Lions.

Eagles[]

Loch CorraGiant Lilies: at one of the few places where the giant lilies still bloom, one of the Eagles (Cared) must swim out to the loch to retrieve Timepieces that are hidden among rocks, whilst avoiding Nevar's toxic enchanted seed-pods. In the end, she added two more Timepieces to the Eagles' collection.

Timepiece totals[]

  • Wolves: two; ten
  • Lions: one; ten
  • Eagles: two; nine
  • All teams together: five; twenty-nine

Day 10[]

Wolves[]

River of the Leaping SalmonRiver Crossing: two timepieces can be retrieved from the sides of the stepping stone path that provides a way across the river for the Wolves. Corso led, and Bayle followed. They obtained both timepieces from the river.

Lions[]

Shadow WoodWatch Tower: one Lion must climb the wreck of an ancient watchtower, and walk over the narrow wooden plank connecting it to an adjoining tower, in order to collect a timepiece hanging from a stone gargoyle there, before making the return journey. Delra opted to do the journey himself.

Erina says that the weapons on the watchtowers can only defend against mortal enemies, as opposed to creatures of pure evil. She also says that when her father was on the throne, Nevar was nothing more than the local troublemaker, a baron with a group that regularly tormented people, but was never a threat to the kingdom, until he carved his staff, which cursed him, and his greed and power-lust.

Eagles[]

Fergus HoltArchery: the Eagles encounter the third and final archery trap set up by Nevar. There are four targets attached to trees, that open and close; a timepiece is below each target. When it is hit, the timepiece will fall to the ground and the target will be hit to secure each of the four timepieces, but when the first target is hit, Demons will slowly close in on them. Masam volunteers to go first, but he misses with his first and second arrows. His third arrow secures the first timepiece, but also triggers the Demons to advance. Simlo takes over, and secures a timepiece with her first arrow, but misses with her second and third. Cared goes third, but fails to hit any of the targets. Tanel went last, and his aim seemed to be worse than Cared's.

The Eagles' only taking two timepieces drove Haryad wild, and he promptly abandoned Erina so he could sulk in worry.

Timepiece totals[]

  • Wolves: two; twelve
  • Lions: one; eleven
  • Eagles: two; eleven
  • All teams together: five; thirty-four

Day 11[]

Wolves[]

Loch of DanaRaft Build: the Wolves must work to reconstruct a boat, broken by demons, and use it to retrieve the single timepiece on a small island in the middle of the water. Corso took the timepiece from the island. Erina says that she and Raven loved the Loch of Dana in their youth, but Nevar has now poisoned the place.

Lions[]

Flint DropAbseiling: to continue their journey, each Lion must abseil down the cliff face. Norso bravely went first, quickly climbing down the cliff. She was quickly followed by Delra, then Kaysa and Goram.

Eagles[]

Rowan's WoodTime Well: the Eagles must use the second of three Time Wells on the island to generate a timepiece, by reassembling the five five-sided stone towers according to the riddle in the Rune Book. Their riddle reads: "The stones are turning inwards now, Show guile when you decide how". Despite some difficulty, the Eagles eventually solved it.

Timepiece totals[]

  • Wolves: one; thirteen
  • Lions: zero; eleven
  • Eagles: one; twelve
  • All teams together: two; thirty-six

Day 12[]

Wolves[]

Battle of Tallow ValeBones of the Vanquished Warriors: to collect two timepieces, Bayle is blindfolded with a green scarf, and she must be guided through a field, littered with the remains of the second mighty battle against Nevar during the last eclipse. If she touches any part of the debris, she will be eliminated; therefore, her fate is in Corso's hands.

Erina remembers the battle very well, when Nevar had his weapon, and how it seemed to be a weapon of mass destruction, depriving the Alaunus people of their hope after his success.

Goofs[]

During the team introduction here, Corso and Jenso are mistakenly credited as taking part in the challenge. Jenso had been lost to the quest eight days previously.

Lions[]

Loch UlaGiant Lilies: one of the Lions must swim out to the last site of giant lilies floating on the loch to retrieve timepieces, whilst avoiding the enchanted seed-pods, which will eliminate a warrior if touched. Kaysa elected to do the honours; interestingly, as opposed to Bayle and Cared before him, he simply visited the lilies one at a time and brought one bundle back, rather than investigating all in one go. Despite his efforts, the Lions left with only a single timepiece to show for their struggle.

Eagles[]

Bog O'BalorBog Crossing: the team must cross the deadly bog by stepping across toadstools, and may collect timepieces that either hang from trees or sit in the grasp of troll figures on poles in the mud. Masam did not jump far enough on his fourth jump, and Cared slipped landing on the toadstool Masam made his fateful jump off of. Both of them fell into the mud, to their demise, along with the loss of five timepieces. Before they fell, however, Tanel told his crew not to get the timepieces, as he tried securing one.

Timepiece totals[]

  • Wolves: two; fifteen
  • Lions: one; twelve
  • Eagles: five were lost; seven
  • All teams together: two loss (net); thirty-four

Day 13[]

Wolves[]

Sun Spear HillStone Trolls: the Wolves must climb Sun Spear Hill and collect two timepieces hanging from stone gargoyles on the cliff face. Bayle goes first, collecting the lower of the two orbs, despite some difficulty. Corso successfully gets the second timepiece, from higher up.

Lions[]

River of the Rising MoonRiver Crossing: timepieces can be retrieved from the threads above the stepping stone path that provides a way across the river for the Lions; however, if they fall into the river, they will die. Delra, being the leader, decides to go first, and takes one timepiece. Norso, who went second, fell into the river jumping onto the first stepping stone, and was eliminated; the stone tipped up as soon as she landed on it. Goram nearly followed Norso into oblivion, but apprehensively crossed the river. Kaysa brought up the rear, and inventively used his bad to dislodge a timepiece into swinging around, into grasp. Unfortunately, the timepiece he collected fell out of his bag and was swept away by the river; the Lions escaped with only one timepiece as a consequence.

Eagles[]

Triple Thorn WoodSpeed Run: the Eagles must jump to grab bags moving up and down above their heads, and open them to see if they contain a timepiece or worthless rocks. They must also watch out for the approaching wood Demons, as Nevar hopes to trap the warriors by keeping them there for too long. The Demons will begin their advance as soon as the first bag is touched. The Eagles only escaped with two timepieces, both found by Tanel.

Timepiece totals[]

  • Wolves: two; seventeen
  • Lions: one; thirteen
  • Eagles: two; nine
  • All teams together: five; thirty-nine

Day 14[]

Wolves[]

Crane WoodTime Well: the Wolves must use the last of the three remaining Time Wells on the island to generate a timepiece, by reassembling the five stones according to the riddle in the Rune Book. Their riddle reads "The stones face inwards in this test. Let faith be your guide to do the rest." They succeeded.

Lions[]

Stoorworm MarshBog Crossing: the Lions must cross the deadly marsh by stepping across toadstools, and may collect timepieces that lie on poles at the sides of the marsh. Goram leads the way, collecting a timepiece en route to the other side. Delra followed, and Kaysa followed him, neither of them collecting timepieces, meaning that the Lions only left with one.

According to Erina, there is a story about Stoorworm Marsh, where in that some horrifying creature lives within it, whose spirit greets anyone who tries to cross it, dragging them down to the foulness within.

Eagles[]

Lochan CaerRaft Build: the Eagles work to reconstruct a boat, broken by demons, and use it to retrieve the single timepiece on a small island in the middle of the water. If the boat collapses, the loch will consume the Eagles. Tanel retrieved the timepeice.

Goofs[]

Tanel says that Lochan Caer is the first challenge he and Simlo faced as a duo. This appears to be a mistake on the editor's part.

Timepiece totals[]

  • Wolves: one; eighteen
  • Lions: one; fourteen
  • Eagles: one; ten
  • All teams together: three; forty-two

Day 15[]

Wolves[]

Hawk WoodWatch Tower: Bayle must climb an ancient watch tower and cross a tightrope connected to an adjacent platform, in order to retrieve a timepiece placed in the hands of a gargoyle on it, before making the return journey. Despite some hesitation at first, she succeeded.

Lions[]

Battle of Glen MorriganBones of the Vanquished Warriors: to collect two timepieces, Goram (blindfolded using a blue scarf) must be guided through a field, littered with the remains of the final mighty battle against Nevar during the last eclipse, four years earlier. If she touches any part of the debris, she will be captured by the spirits of the fallen. She successfully obtained both orbs.

Erina says that she and Raven fought at Glen Morrigan, against Nevar, who had then crafted his Staff of Power and used it as a weapon of mass destruction, allowing him to win by vanquishing the whole army, whilst Erina's parents (the King and Queen of Alaunus), along with their servants, fled the Island into exile.

Goofs[]

During the morning warm-up, Norso can be seen, with her back to the camera, despite the fact that she had been eliminated two days earlier.

Eagles[]

Mount Gruagach, Abseiling: to continue their journey, each Eagle must abseil down the cliff face. Tanel leads the way, followed by Simlo.

Goofs[]

As Tanel starts the climb, Erina's commentary describes the Lions at Glen Morrigan. Moreover, during the interviews afterwards, Tanel is mistakenly credited as 'Tanla'.

Timepiece totals[]

  • Wolves: one; nineteen
  • Lions: two; sixteen
  • Eagles: zero; ten
  • All teams together: three; forty-five

Final Week[]

Fortress Approach challenges[]

Day 16[]

  • Foothills of Mount GruagachMap Riddle: At the start of the final week, Haryad goes beserk after discovering that Nevar has carved more staffs of power from the Oak, and has used them to arm the rest of the Demons guarding the fortress, heavily stacking the odds in his favour, as the warriors cannot tackle them. Elsewhere, the Eagles reunite in the shadows of their last challenge, with the Lions and Wolves. At this point, seven of the original group remains, as five warriors (Tanla and Jenso (Wolves); Norso (Lions); and Masam and Cared (Eagles)) have been lost for one reason or another, and Corso is now leader of the Wolves. The surviving warriors from the three teams regroup to continue the quest together, seeing each other for the first time in fifteen days; at this point, they have forty-five timepieces altogether. Putting the three pieces of the map together, the map magically becomes whole again, the warriors decipher the runes around the edges of the map. Translating the ancient symbols, they receive a message: "The end of the beginning, the beginning of the end, find the Twisted Tree, my friend. Two to the North, and four to the West, dig for the sunken treasure chest. There you will find but one thing more, to help you through the final door". Leaving their team flags behind, the warriors follow the riddle, which guides them to The Twisted Tree, two leages to the North, and four to the West. The runes instruct them to dig near the tree (at the spot marked with an X (meaning 'gift' in runic) made of two branches), where they find a small chest containing a golden disc pendant from Erina, inscribed with a single rune, meaning success. This pendant will ultimately open the keep within the fortress, where the Great Oak is being held, in lieu of the King's precious ornaments.
  • Fortress SurroundingsThrall Demons: closing in on the fortress, the warriors face a dilemma. Nevar has set up thrall traps everywhere on the island, manned by thrall Demons; but if they try to avoid the trap, they will be captured by Wood Demons, who constantly patrol the forest. Therefore, the warriors must all cross the trap, as it is their only way forward. For Bayle and Corso, it is an unwelcome reminder of the fourth day of the quest, when Jenso became the first casualty of the mission, twelve days earlier. Any warriors that touch a thread, in turn causing any bells attached to ring, will be instantly eliminated by the Demons that wait around the edges. Bayle, the first warrior to enter, triggered a bell by the exit; she was followed by Kaysa who was the next to attempt to exit. Both were eliminated from the quest, along with seventeen timepieces they were carrying, meaning the warriors' total now stands at twenty-seven. Possibly due to their closeness to the fortress, Nevar's laughing can be heard when Kaysa and Bayle die. The strength with which Nevar guards the fortress gives Erina an idea to help the warriors in the future.
  • Fortress SurroundingsFrozen Timepiece: to collect the final timepiece, the remaining five warriors must set up three telescopes in the correct positions to focus the sun's rays onto the timepiece, frozen on a pedestal in the centre. Wooden panels may also be rotated to avoid blocking the telescope's line of sight. They must also watch out for the fast approaching Demons, alerted when the telescopes are moved. Cyrus explains that the timepieces are indestructible, that he modified the telescopes to destroy the ice, and that Nevar cast the ice around the timepiece, cursing it in a way that if the ice is touched, the disturber will be enthralled in the icy mists. When the telescopes are set up and facing the ice without interruption, they will each shoot sunlight at the ice at the same time, melting it. With the timepiece retrieved (and the warriors all escaping only just before the Demons arrived), their total now stands at twenty-eight.

Day 17[]

  • Hawk WoodNevar's Eye: the warriors arrive in Hawk Wood; for Corso, this is his second visit to this place, following his and Bayle's attempts at the watch towers two days earlier. Here, Tanel must climb another watch tower and use the catapult on the platform to destroy Nevar's Eye, a magic crystal that allows Nevar to see all that occurs near the fortress. The other warriors collect stones to place in a basket, which Tanel can pull up for use as catapult ammunition. They must also watch out for two Staff of Power-wielding Demons, who are sent by Nevar as the Eye is attacked. After struggling at first, Tanel managed to fell the crystal with his fifth-to-last shot. When the Eye is knocked over, Nevar can no longer see through it, and the warriors can continue without fear of further attack.
  • River of the Rising MoonRiver Crossing: after felling the crystal Eye, the warriors come to the River of the Rising Moon, the last river they will cross before they approach the fortress; for Delra and Goram, it is their second time at this river, and an unwelcome reminder of how Norso fell to her demise four days earlier. Each warrior must cross the broken bridge by using two planks that slide across the poles that make up the sides of the bridge; pulling the attached rope will bring the planks back for the next warrior. They must also cross quickly, as the Demons are still following them. If a warrior falls into the river, there is no way back. Goram leads the way, followed by Corso, Simlo, Delra and finally Tanel.
  • GladeMagic Stone: using a blazing torch, the warriors must set alight a stone tablet, which will produce a riddle only when set on fire, and even then, not for long; the warriors must write the riddle down before it disappears. Delra lights the stone bowl, causing fire to appear at the tablet opposite: the riddle reads "These words are from the runes of time. See no one when you hear them rhyme. Speak nothing when we speak their sound. Cruel Demons stay, pray turn around" and Simlo writes it down, albeit after the words fade. Erina says that Cyrus told her how to neutralise the guards at the fortress. She and Haryad worry that if the warriors get it wrong, the magic will not work.

Day 18[]

Although this is split over three days, the following events up to the end of the quest are supposed to be over one day (Day 18). At noon, the great eclipse will begin, and the portal to the fortress will open.

  • ClearingSecret Message: acting on her inspiration from two days earlier, Erina sends a Rune message into the sky for Raven, using her Staff of Power, in order to trick Nevar into believing the quest has failed and that no warriors remain, and that Nevar will stand down his guard numbers. Each rune that Erina sends erupts like a firework. The warriors also translate the message, reading "None left, all over", but become confused as to its meaning; using Tanel's Pearl of Wisdom, which says "Don't go to the left, move only to the right, all over the wall and out of sight. Watch carefully where and how you go, take what you find, to fight your foe", they ascertain the direction they must take, climbing over a ruined wall, and acquire the Mirrored Shield they find on the ground as they go. Erina discovers that her plan has worked, as Haryad notes that Nevar has relaxed the guards. She also says the Mirrored Shield will help the warriors get to the inner chamber.
  • Causeway ApproachMagic Potion: with the road to the Fortress drawing nearer, the group must concoct a draught to use against one of the Demons found at the Causeway by following the riddle on the parchment. There is also a cauldron left nearby for use. Haryad worries that the Demons have already trashed it, but Erina says that the Demons believe the quest is over, and they are not looking for the warriors, so the equipment is not destroyed. The riddle reads "Four drops from red, and seven of blue. Three spoons from the yellow, and from the green two. Add the herb that is not a weed, but is grown from the magical solar seed. Mix well, my friends, and stir but thrice, then shake the bottled substance twice. All Demons, once they smell the brew, will sleep and dream no harm to you." Erina says that Cyrus taught her the art of brewing
  • Fortress CausewayDemon Vanquish: despite Nevar standing down his protection after being tricked into thinking the quest is ended, two staff-wielding Demons still stand guard on the Fortress Causeway; the first must be neutralised with the spell that was earlier written down, whilst the other must be neutralised with the draught. The ground surrounding the causeway is cursed, so if a warrior steps off, they will die. Simlo, who read out the spell which was incorrectly recorded by the warriors, was taken by the first demon whilst the others ran past; the second was successfully tranquilised by Goram using the potion they had made, and he fell asleep after a few seconds, dropping his staff. Only four warriors now remain, as they approach the outer wall, with only twenty-six timepieces in total, as the eclipse draws nearer.
Goofs[]

The Demons on the causeway wield staffs of power, so why didn't the first one use his to kill Simlo?

Fortress challenges[]

Episode 19[]

  • Fortress WallThe Totality Clock: now within the grounds of the castle, and with the eclipse imminent, the four remaining warriors must feed as many of their twenty-six remaining timepieces as they can into the Totality Clock, which the Demons constantly guard. The Clock itself was invented by Cyrus many years ago to lengthen the eclipse, in turn delaying the closing of the portal into the fortress. One warrior turns the handle which drives the rotating mechanism, into which timepieces are placed by another warrior; they must work together to time it correctly, so that the timepiece will fall into the feeding mechanism. The timepiece will rotate one revolution anticlockwise, and when it reaches the top, should fall into the claw that will load it into the Clock proper. Each timepiece successfully deposited will pour sand into the Clock's timer, ultimately lengthening the totality by one minute; if the timepiece falls beyond the claw, it will drop through another hole and be out of play. They must also look out for the Demon patrols, who still believe the warriors' mission has failed and are unaware of their presence. When the Demons arrive, the warriors must enter the portal.
  • Outer FortressCatapult: with twelve timepieces inserted into the Clock, twelve minutes are available for the warriors to complete the quest, a fact which worries Erina, as it leaves virtually no room for error. She also says that the way to the inner chamber, and by extension, the tree, is through the Door with Four Locks, which is guarded by a Demon patrol. However, Nevar has taken one of the four keys out of the door and sealed it behind an outer wall. The warriors must first knock down the wall using a wheeled catapult to retrieve the key and let them through, though they know this will alert Nevar to their presence. After this, they must proceed as quickly as they can.
  • FortressDoor to the Inner Chamber: using the reflection in the mirrored shield, the warriors must navigate a path to the chamber door without looking at or touching the four Demons standing guard, which will eliminate them if they sense eyes looking at them directly. Once at the door, Corso must place the key he retrieved into the fourth lock to open it. They must also move quickly, as Nevar knows they are in the castle, and will send all his forces after them. Tanel carries the shield and leads the way, followed by Corso, Delra and Goram. Haryad reports that Demons are amassing on the battlements, for the final battle.
Goofs[]

In the interview after the Door to the Inner Chamber challenge, Tanel calls Goram by her real name, Niamh.

Episode 20 (finale)[]

  • FortressInner Chamber: after enduring all the traps before them, only a few more obstacles litter the path between the warriors and success, but they have only half the time remaining in the Totality Clock. First, they must remove the sliding wooden barricades that stand in their path, to get access to the inner chamber. Then, they must cross a rune path using a riddle from the Rune Book, spelling out the word 'Erina'; the rune path dates from the time of Erina's father. If they step on the wrong runes, they will be turned to stone. Nevar stands atop the tower and tries to blast the warriors with his Staff, but the right runes protect the warriors from harm. After crossing the rune path, the warriors must then traverse a beam, set up by Nevar, that has four swinging boulders across its length, whilst the Demon guards fire at them from the battlements, as does Nevar from the tower. After completing the trap, the warriors must run through a gate that will drop boiling oil onto them if they are not quick enough, and then climb through the exit hole. Delra went first, and completed the course safely. Goram, who went second and carried the pendant they had obtained at The Twisted Tree, was knocked from the obstacle course by the first boulder, and the pendant was lost. Tanel and Corso followed, both succeeding.
  • FortressDoor to the Oak: to enter the room holding the Great Oak, the three remaining warriors must solve the rotating locks on the door. Here, they are safe, as Nevar's staff will not work so close to the Oak. Despite Goram's demise and the pendant being dropped, the pendant was not needed, as the warriors remembered the symbol on it, and a further clue was given in the Rune Book, in the form of a riddle which reads "Find success in the fortress, when the moon is full". With the riddle solved, the doors open, and the warriors find the tree.
  • FortressThe Great Oak: finally arriving at the Great Oak, a final riddle, the Riddle of the Oak, must be solved so that the one correct acorn of the three different types hanging from the branches (metallic, jewelled or normal acorn) is taken; picking the wrong one, or taking one without a pure heart, will end a warrior's quest. Erina says that everybody who walks beneath the Oak must solve the riddle, which the tree uses to protect itself from evildoers. The riddle reads "One heart from metal ne'er was grown, no heart yet made from precious stone. Great hearts of oak shine out alone, choose well, make one of these your own. One chance to choose, one choice to make, one of these acorns you must take. One time to do it, once and then, one time to leave, to fight again. Remember once before you choose, the more you gain, the more you lose." Nevar cannot take an acorn, as he is not true of heart. After much deliberation, Delra chooses the normal acorn, and he, Corso and Tanel flee.

Having taken the correct acorn, DelraCorso and Tanel escape Nevar's attacks, protected by the acorn, escaping the fortress just as the sands run out and the portal closes. They return to Erina and Haryad at the Waterfall of the Little Fawn, the magical place where she first met Raven. Delra hands her the acorn; they then make to return to the mainland, where they can find Raven, and together plant a new tree that will help in their fight to rid the scourge of Nevar from Alaunus.
